Chapter Five
Cal sat down on the sofa, crossing his arms over his chest. If he didn’t, he’d hook his fingers through the belt loops of Drew’s shorts and pull him closer. Although Anton had left, Cal couldn’t do it. Wouldn’t do it. But he wanted to.
Drew stood before him, wringing his hands nervously. Then he started pacing. “It was all innocent in the beginning. Your books are so vivid, it’s easy to see the scenes before my eyes. I... had a crush on you just from reading what you can do with words. I’m not like you, but I express myself through my own art. Picturing your book made me feel closer to you. At least in my head. God.” He placed his hands over his face. “Given what happened last night, I sound like one of those stalker whackos.”
“Nonsense,” Cal muttered. “I wanted it, too.”
“Yeah, but... Anyway, I played with a few scenes from your books. Then I found a picture of you online, and... and now we’re in an awkward situation.”
Cal leaned forward and flipped the sketchbook open with one finger. “That’s what you call awkward?” Detective Jones and private investigator Tulip—enemies by day and lovers by night—were portrayed in a passionate sex scene. Cal couldn’t have described it any better with words. He almost felt the heat of their skin and smelled the heavy odor of sweat and sex.
The picture was a perfect reminder of last night, because Drew had portrayed Tulip and Jones with their own faces. It was so real that Cal longed to pull Drew into his arms and take him again.
“What would you call it?” Drew sounded hesitant and worried.
“Fucking hot. Although you know I’m not nearly as ripped as you make me look. This is me, right?” He arched a brow. No reason to beat around the bush.
“Yeah.” Drew coughed. Cal saw his dilated eyes, and how his chest rose and fell in short pants. “Since I had the real you, I need to tell you that you’re hotter than in my drawings.”
“Drew,” Cal said warningly. From the look on Drew’s face, Cal knew he had to back off, because Drew sure as hell wouldn’t. But the longer they stared at each other, the surer he was he’d cave eventually, his friendship with Anton be damned.
